Con-Cor literally wore out the tooling for those Revell Chryslers.
In fact, they were so good somebody cloned them, I should have bought from a kid at a show had a slightly smaller, one piece cast body Imperial.
But that's how these folks should do HO cars, because other than the convertible being top down they were perfect to load an auto rack with.

I thought the Reel Rides GTO actually looked very good. Their 70ish Chevy pickup looks bang on. The 77 Trans Am though had a lot of issues.

That Trans Am is just bad all around. The rear widow area is the worst. It must be a difficult design to tool because even some of the 1/64 Trans Am's look off.

I'd forgotten Reel Rides did a Trans Am too. And somewhere here I have at least one of all of those cars tucked away.

I slapped all the parts together for the heck of it. I'm still going to pour new molds, but I figured this could be a background model maybe. I didn't bother cleaning up the casting, or breaking out the airbrush for that matter, so the paint could be nicer. I hope to cast clear windows for the real models. I hacked these (hacked being the key word) from some clear blister packaging. The back window is a little embarrassing actually. The molds didn't quite shrink enough. It's probably around 1/85 scale, but it doesn't look totally out of place alongside the Neo Buick.

?? odd there was no DeSota in that Revell 61 Chrysler collection ?? but that was one of the last items Revell put out in the HO line, maybe during 1962 ? and they were also available as RTR cars for around $.50 cents. Heljan bought the Revell HO line in the 80s.the car tooling was rather rough,it wasn't taken care of by Revell. Con-Cor released them, but after 1990 they were hard to find. believe the 1st vehicle Revell did was the Ford C and Moving Van around 1957/58 possibly. later the Auto Hauler trailer was added, but this was awhile before the 61 Chryslers arrived. the trucks were molded in color, black tires, etc. went to see the Mayflower-II around 1958,when we left we were given a Revell moving van in Mayflower colors of Green and Yellow if remembered correctly ?? later the Van was Global in lite and dark blue, but still with Black tires. the Con-Cor versions here were in all white plastic. but the Ford Cs in the kits with the Athearn 40' vans were Yellow. and not sure if the kits with the flat trailers were also Yellow ? the Flat Trailer was a Euro looking trailer, but it could be reworked to have a U.S./Canadian look to it. the Ford C Cab has been popular over the years,Revell,Penn-Line,Gilbert[Penn-Line?], Athearn and possibly some covertable Yatming and others toys. I wish I could cast cars that were that 'embarrassing"! Depending on the region, you can find some out-of-era vehicles. I model Northern Maine in the mid 70s-early 80s, I've seen some photos of the era with notably older vehicles. Before the popularity of leases, people owned and held onto their cars longer.
I'll also point out that Hot Wheels issued some HO cars several years back. There was a hot rod-style deuce coupe in among the late model exotics, good for about any era. Did anyone mention the Athearn Freightliner from the mid-70s?

I suspect Revell's inclusion of similar looking Dodge Dart and Dodge Polara may be the result of DeSoto being discontinued the end of November, 1960, not even two full months into production. Then again, the DeSoto wouldn't have looked a lot different from the Newport, although it would have been a coupe.

the so called HO Hot Wheels 64 Galaxie Drag car was closer to 1/8"- 1/96 scale than HO. it was really good looking otherwise,a Real Loss with that screw up !!. the other Hot Wheels ranged from slightly over 1-87,to maybe 1-100 scale. few were actual HO scale. think the "Batmobile" was about HO,but never did get one. in the 70s and early 80s Hot Wheels did have a nice 427 Cobra SC,but it had a metal windshield if memory is correct.somewhere have a few of them in different colors. the Monagram Cobra obsoleted the Hot Wheels, and think that Herpa still makes them currently, but with closer to HO sized wheels. they also come in more colors than Red,but are at least 5X the Mini Exact price. the Mini exact 57 Bel Air was nice also. the Reel Rides Caddy Eldorado[?] seemed close to 1-100 scale also,a good back ground model, but not a good mix with actual HO sized cars. then there was Wiking, most vehicles were about 1-90th size, but always sold as HO. Haha. Yes, it's not my name sake, but I have a 66 Chevelle too. Luckily I stumbled upon a guy across the ocean who sells some really nice 1/87 resin 60's and 70's American cars. His company is called RPM87, and he makes a really nice 69 Nova.

Impressive results, John, glad you stuck with it. Anyway you can cast in clear material to get the window glass as well, like the Willams Bros. models?

seems to be a lack of mid 60s Fords and Mercs in that photo. a 67 Cyclone would be really nice, but that is life. will see what is worked up in a year or so. Spikre

Here is the link for the 87RPM cars. The website is not in English, but if you contact him, he speaks English very well. www.dutchart-models.nl/87rpm/p-1a-1/ Not many American Fords, but he showed me a 66 Fairlane that should be available soon.

Here is a handful of what RPM87 offers. Nice castings, I'll have to buy some. I do hope they don't fall into the musclecar trap and will bring out plenty of "normal" cars. Just how many Road Runners and Chargers does one need???

I never owned a 69 Chevy full-size.
I did own a 1968 Chevrolet Caprice six-passenger station wagon complete with wood grain sides. It had a 396 325hp under the hood backed by a Turbo 400 transmission. Its hard to fathom but it had front drum brakes, no discs! Its the only big block Chevy I owned. I used the car as my daily driver.
Best looking full-size wagon in my opinion was the 1965 Impala. The six round taillights and the body lines really worked.
