Here is a handful of what RPM87 offers. Nice castings, I'll have to buy some. I do hope they don't fall into the musclecar trap and will bring out plenty of "normal" cars. Just how many Road Runners and Chargers does one need??? No love for a 1970 Plymouth Superbird or 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona?

Lots of love, but seriously uncommon. With vehicles as with the prototype too many model the rare or oddball prototypes. I cringe when I see layouts with Lambos, Ferraris, AC Cobras, etc. parked all over the place. We need Bel Airs, Custom 500's, Valiants, Mavericks, and the like.

Thanks Jim. I think I'll do the 69 full sized wagon after this one. Keep an eye on these guys. www.americanmotorwerks.com/They're just getting started. I'm designing a photo etch for their first release. A 66 C10. They have every full sized Chevy planned in time. The 69 Chevrolet Kingswood Estate(Caprice) complete with the wood grain sides? How about a Wagon Queen Family Truckster?

Lots of love, but seriously uncommon. With vehicles as with the prototype too many model the rare or oddball prototypes. I cringe when I see layouts with Lambos, Ferraris, AC Corbas, etc. parked all over the place. We need Bel Airs, Custom 500's, Valiants, Mavericks, and the like. We need vehicles like four door hardtops, 2 door sedans, 4 door sedans and station wagons. Just in the Chevrolet line not everything is a 57 Bel Air 2-door hardtop, convertible or Camaro. Just in the full-size line you have regular 2 door hardtop Impalas(non-SS), 4 door post sedans in the Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne name. Biscayne was popular with police. 2 door post in the Bel Air and Biscayne line and six and nine passenger station wagons. Chevy II anyone? Most Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac and especially full-size Pontiac's are non-existent. 98's, 88's, Wildcat, Electra and Bonneville are a few missing names. Not everything is a GTO. Lets not forget Chevy and GMC Suburbans which had a couple of body styles in the 1960's. Chyrsler New Yorker or Newport, Dodge Monaco, Plymouth Valiant and Dodge's truck line in the Mopars. Ford Fairlane, Galaxy, Pinto and Ford's light truck line. AMC is really left out. Can we forget Pacers and Gremlins. No not every AMC was a Javelin. Vegas lined up and ready for loading in those Exactrail racks?

If some mfr did an 1968 of 69 Ford falcon I'd be in heaven. A split pea green 68 was my first car.

If you're at all familiar with Jahn Jens' work at shape ways, then you'll see the variety they have planned. That's who's files they are using from what I gather, and he has literally hundreds of them. I hope like heck their little venture works out. www.shapeways.com/shops/Madaboutcars?s=144#more-products

Still like to see some more 1960's four doors(hardtop and sedan) and wagons in HO. Not everything was a two door hardtop.

You have perfect timing! I was just thinking about this and started to play around with casting freight car details for a kitbash I'm doing to get some practice making molds and casting in resin.
Will you provide a how-to when you finish? I've heard about shrinking things by adding solvent, but figured it would distort a lot. I need '67-'69 cars and trucks for my open autoracks and great detail isn't as important as you have produced...the first, yellow car, would be sufficient. The last car you showed was fantastic! Very nice job!
I thought about slush casting from when my mom and sister used to make ceramic figures, it would keep the auto racks from getting too heavy. I have 12 Accurail autoracks (6 bi level and 6 tri level) and I just got a new Athearn bi level for my birthday (which is a great looking model too).
The shapeways cars are nice, but I'm looking to keep the price to $1 or so a car, which is why I thought about casting them. I don't mind some minor flaws, they will be on moving trains, not out on the open layout.
Anyway, very nice job with the Shrinky Dinks! I'm looking forward to any tips you can give a beginner caster...Easy Mold silicone putty from Michaels is neat stuff but I would like to try using a 2 part silicone...maybe even try to make a 2 part mold (the youtube videos I've been watching make it look easy.lol)

If I was wanting to fill and auto rack car I think I might consider one of the shape ways versions and use it as a master to make a mold and knock off a couple dozen in resin to fill the car.

We need some common junk, the Chrysler K cars, a Ford Granada, Maverick (we have so many other Fords!), a Chevy Cavalier, several versions of Impala, Cadillac Seville and maybe a Hoop'de, Dodge Aspen/Plymouth Volare, Cordoba, Lebaron, Pontiac Fiero, and the list of forgotten, but needed vehicles goes on. 1990s guys could probably use some Saturns. Truck? How about an IH Loadstar, used to be everywhere. And Japanese cars from the 70's and 80's have barely been scratched.

Thanks guys. Detailing these little cars the way I wanted has posed some new challenges for me. I finally had to break out that optivisor I bought years ago and never felt the need to use.

Really looking forward to seeing the LeMans completed; my parents drove theirs until the mid-nineties upon which it was retired to the backyard, where it remains today...

With all this car talk, I figured I'd update this thread and show you all what I've been up to. Click on the thumbs for a full sized image. Those are great! Immediately recognizeable as to make and model and year even in the little thumbnails. Can you do a '68 Chevy with the triple taillights in the bumper? We had one when I was a kid and it seemed so modern and futuristic at the time!

With it and the 69 wagon done, I'll be able to kit bash a bunch of different 69 and 70 body styles since they shared the same basic bodys.

I got on a roll this last month and got the bodies and chassis of four more completed. 1970 Impala Sport Coupe and a 69 Chevelle. The 69 Impala wagon from SPF, and the 67 Impala 4 door. The master for the 67 chassis is currently being molded is silicone. As much as I'd love to keep doing Chevy's, I've got a handful of Mopars, Fords and BOP's I'd like to start on next.

My second car was a '70 Impala Custom 4 door hardtop in that oh-so-common light metallic green. Would love to have one in 1/87 .
