I talked to Rob Pisani from Atlas and he said the hoped to have track in Sept. They are trying to hold price lines. He is aware of this forum. I haven't purchased any track in so long that I don't even know what current prices are. I think last time I bought track, it was a bunch of Kato Unitrack end bumpers for the display tracks I take to RPM meets. The Karpet Route is a bunch of track I've had for 10+ years, plus a bunch of the old style stuff (different color roadbed) that I got for nothing. I'm hoping to begin benchwork sometime in 2013, and lay track maybe in late 2013. I might find myself wishing I had hoarded some back in the roaring 90s. I haven't made any decisions, but it's likely I'll use a lot of Atlas code 83 flex track. I probably will not use Atlas turnouts - I've never liked them, old or new. I will probably use ME or Shinohara. Or even Peco, but I am not sure if they currently make anything suitable. The old Plywood Level Route was Atlas flex and Peco turnouts, and they were the most reliable, bullet-proof turnouts I ever used, even if they didn't have prototypical frog angles. Yes, I think in some ways they were superior to the Kato turnouts. But I have too many things on the plate right now to fret over track prices and supply. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, even though I may encounter a gauntlet of Ferengi demanding a heavy toll.... Andy

I may be an exception to the rule, but I never got into anything other than grain hoppers until the past couple years. -------------------------------------------------------------- I've always been a boxcar junkie but, lately I been buying covered hoppers and more tank cars then in years past.

Quick Sidebar:Jim, I read your above response and googled the lady's name that you mentioned (Elizabeth Allen) and found this Pbase photo: www.pbase.com/espeef5/image/135910238Wow! Put that locomotive out in natural sunlight on piece of ballasted HO track, photograph it, and it will fool people into thinking that's a hulking prototype. On Cannon's site, since she used Cannon's doors, cab, sub-base and bunch more, the site had photos of the unit as it was being built. Its artwork even in the bare plastic. Once she painted the model......it became a Rembrandt!

Her models are artwork for sure. Larry

Before I get back on topic.......Has anyone tried to contact Elizabeth Allen and extend an invitation to join this or the other forums? Back on topic: Paul, thanks for responding on River Point Station's New Haven Pullman Standard streamlined cars. So, from what I understand, RPS is a very small company (as a number of our manufacturers/importers are) and the owner has high standards. So it will likely be worth the wait. For the plated finish, I do hope that these units will feature a dark grayish tone with a medium sheen as it would be appropriate for Pullman Standard corrugated lightweights in good shape.

Antonio,
I have perused Train Orders and noticed that some of the SP heavy hitters are regulars there, as well as a Southern Pacific Yahoo Groups email list at I am a member of.
Anyone may invite these folks but I'm not sure if they would join here or not. I don't feel comfortable doing that but anyone else can do what they like.

Once she painted the model......it became a Rembrandt! I saw this model at several stages including the final form just before painting, and after painting. No doubt in my mind it's the best model of an SDP45 ever, in any scale or any material. My EL version lacks the detail level and the straightness of the build. And it has a weirdly stretched Kato drive, which limits the below-the-frame detailing to pretty basic stuff. I turned down an offer from someone to scratchbuild a brass chassis for it, because I wanted the model to be my own. Although it's an art, Elizabeth approaches model building from an engineering standpoint - precision is paramount. I discovered long ago, precision is not my strong suit when working with raw materials (computers are another thing) and hence my "cut close, file to fit" style. Which I also find applies to drywalling. Andy
