Atlas was producing O scale California Zephyr passenger cars. How far has this project gotten, and is it still on track? Which cars have they produced and what is left? Has the model train production slow down affected this series?
That is good news, esp since so much production has slowed it would be a shame to not see the train completed with all the cars. I did look and wasn't able to find any news on Atlas's website, so hopefully they will put this up were anyone can find it. I would have suggested they do the dome-observation before the 16-section sleeper, and save that for last... get the more important and iconic cars out first.

Kind Sir. Atlas latest news the PRR sleeper attached to the CZ is going to be produced in post 58 colours. Sacre Bleur I am running the pre 58 version so either I buy an undecorated version and re-decal it myself or wait until the CZ run is completed and possibly the early finish PRR sleeper may be produced. Only one problem with that ....I am 77 years young....and just might run out of time. Maybe the fitting of a second pacemaker to supplement the one that is already in there might help. I wonder if through thought transference my two pacemakers could work my model railway DCC ....on second thoughts how would my clockwork engines get wound up? James (well it is Sunday).
I don't model O scale, heck, I don't have enough room right now for even a little HO layout! But I enjoy following the saga of the California Zephyr. Hopefully they will get the full train out in O in the not to distant future! BTY, my wife is from up the road north of you near Newcastle -yes, I married a Geordie!

Hi Jim, Latest four CZ cars enroute that will make eleven out of thirteen, Just a baggage and a dome chair with conductors compartment to come. All I will then need is a set of WP F3s an A-B-B I think and a long shelf to display them on when not running them. James..
Ah, raised a topic from over year ago! Glad you were able to find some sources for the CZ cars since JD Hobbies didn't seem to want your business. You're planning on a 13 car train? That should be impressive!
I've got nearly enough HO California Zephyr cars to run two CZ passenger trains, although they would be more like winter trains when they were shorter due to lower loadings for that time of year.

Two more 0 gauge CZs are on their way now via Petersons that will make eight and two on order from Atlas, will soon have the complete rake just the baggage and the dome/chair/with conductors window to be produced:- Current stock, Silver Rapids/Bay/Schooner/Arroyo/Mountain/Feather//Crane/Platter/Palm/Crescent/....../...../ . Would like to go in for the El Capitan bi level cars but by the time I can save up from my pension the models will have long gone. have gone in for the LARK triple articulated dining set by GGD so the daylight Dining cars I have in the Weaver five car sets I will be able to repaint to another companies colours providing I can match the style otherwise I will be running some empty diners in with baggage cars as a sort of empty coaching stock train--will look a bit like an early version of the rainbow period. James.

Thank you Boss for the CZ consist, as I am trying to do the early 'daze ' the 16 sect sleeper will be alright but I will if the window formation is the same see if it is possible to fit in a chair interior and have another passenger car variation. I've lost out on the triple diner set so will have a go at scratch building a set. One thing a slab side coach body is easier to form than a tumblehome. James.

CZ Baggage cars, I noticed from one of the photos a baggage car with a body wide gangway. Does anyone know, were these wide gangways used on the CZ cars while waiting for the complete consists being produced . James.
If you are referring to a different non-CZ baggage car, the only one I am aware of is the CB&Q Havelock baggage cars which substituted on the CZ for the Budd built matching CZ baggage cars. Do you have a photo so I can see what you are referring to?
I am not an expert on all of the many private passenger trains. From what little I know, Budd made slumber coaches for a number of railroads.
If you could provide a link or which Budd slumbercoach, we might be able to find out when they were built and how long they lasted in service. I'd guess that the "modern" light weight slumber coaches were built in the 1940's and maybe the 1950's and remained in use well into the Amtrak era when the government took over most private passenger rail services in 1971.

Jim, Four are advertised the only 'loose' one seems to be the Dome/chair with conductors window. I have two coming from Petersen and two from Atlas. except for the PRR sleeper which covered the New York-Chicago run all my CZs are WPs. In my ignorance I ordered all WPs not realising the train was composed from first come first served basis but I am happy to have a full train from just one company. I don't have the appropriate motive power to draw the train so representations will be made to N&W to 'borrow ' one of their J1s. My only other motive power is two SP Geeps and two AT&SF F9As and a C&NW Petrol electric railcar. James.
