So here is the list of possible CZ passenger cars styles:
- Baggage car
- Dome-coach
- Dome-coach with conductors window
- Dome-lounge
- Diner
- 16 section sleeper (later converted to 48 chair car, looks externally the same)
- 10-6 sleeper
- 5-6 sleeper (not part of the original 11 car train sets - added to CZ in early 1950's)
- Dome-observation
At it's height, the standard California Zephyr has 12 passenger cars, which included 3 dome-coaches, and 3 10-6 sleepers (one of them the transcontinental sleeper). In the 1950's the 16 section sleeper was apparently loaned to other trains sometimes and removed from the CZ in the late 1950's. They returned after conversion to coach/chair cars around 1962/62 and were positioned between the baggage and the dome-coaches when ridership demanded capacity.
