I've only ever had the blue box versions, so to me anything will be an improvement I reckon.

Well, had them preordered through Maine Modelworks, but haven’t received any communication on them. I guess I will just order a pair somewhere else so I don’t miss out. Maine Modelworks posted this on their Facebook a couple days ago: “Hello everyone. This is Tim. Due to unfortunate circumstances Mainemodelworks has had an interruption in our service to you folks. I have been out for the past two months with medical and personal issues. I am slowly returning to a normal routine including getting the shop and our usual service level to our internet customers back to normal. This will take a little time. During the course of this we lost several pre-orders , If you preordered any of the below these were affected: - ScaleTrains Flatcars - ScaleTrains Autoracks - Athearn Genesis GP15s - Athearn Genesis SD70MACs - Athearn Roundhouse GP59/GP60 - Athearn RTR 53' Wabash Trailers - Athearn RTR 53' Stoughton Containers - Scaletrains Tier 4's - Scaletrains G52X Bethgons - Rapido SW1200s We will not be able to fill your order. We will be refunding folks if you had a paid invoice as soon as possible, but please be patient. We apologize if you missed out on certain models due to this. The problems I have gone through were neither planned or expected. We have many customers who have been with us for a long time and hope that you will remain with us. My sincerest apologies to all of you for this breakdown in service! Thank you for your continued support. Any messages or calls etc we will try to get to as fast as possible. Some packages from older orders are still going out. Thank you, Tim”

RTR SW1500 - as close to Genesis as you can get without being Genesis - led lights (in some cases - think SP - lots of LEDs (12?)) - new motor designed for the small switchers - full cab interior - sound - light effects (ground lights) - some roadname specific details (2 types of trucks) - more coming in RTR line of boxcars But the Mashima motor is good; chassis has some room for weight still. I need SW1000s more than another SW1500 though

Real bummer about the SW1500s. Ground lights, but no ditch lights?

Real bummer about the SW1500s. Ground lights, but no ditch lights? ditchlights aren't possible without re-tooling the thing, I guess tweaking some things to add ground lights is a much easier upgrade in the short term.

It would be nice if Athearn announced newly tooled modern vehicles. They seemed to allude that something could happen because both Jack and Jim worked for Ford, possibly at the same plant. I believe Jim said, "stay tuned", from the Sept. 7 train Tuesday.

Athearn Train Tuesday - September 21st 2021 - all N scale coverage - nothing of interest in the few questions covered - Athearn is looking for feedback regarding the broadcast time for Athearn Train Tuesday - would people prefer it at a different time, say 5:00 C(D/S)T?
- October announcements this Friday.

Last day of astronomical summer (September 21), about 6:20 p.m., EDT
mdvie, once again thanks VERY much for your summary of today's Athearn online session. Knowing that that firm will be posting its October new announcements this Friday is very helpful to me. I'm facing a deadline for submitting my usual submissions of material for possible use in the next (November issue) of the Bridge Line Historical Society Bulletin at noon EDT on that day. I'll want to get as much as I can done before going to bed Thursday evening because I'll need to leave home about 10:15 a.m. Friday for a medical appointment in Boston -- nothing too serious. So I'll try to finish and submit the other two pieces Thursday and leave space in the modeling column for any Athearn items of particular D&H and/or other Northeastern U.S. / Canadian interest for possible addition ASAP on Friday.

Given that this isn't the first time you have commented on the time crunch for your historical society, perhaps it is time they valued your efforts and bumped your deadline by say 12 or 24 hours?
The Athearn announcements are a known entity - the last Friday every month - so should be possible for them to plan around it so you don't burn yourself out on what is (I assume) a volunteer effort.

For the price being asked for the SD70MAC you would think it would have all the underframe plumbing, but alas it is missing. I think it will be a pass for me. I'm spoiled now and expect it.,

Well, it is cheaper than you would pay for a unit with those features by $50 (compare DC versions of SD70MAC at $210 vs Genesis 2.0 models like the Dash-9 at $260).
But yes, that is one of the issues facing Athearn as a company with an inventory of existing tooling - time has moved on and whether it is missing details or missing lighting a lot of their stuff is showing its age and it will take time and $$$ to upgrade it all.
It can be difficult to buy some of the stuff from that older tooling when it doesn't meet your current standards.

I don't know if youse guys recall, but Athearn produced almost all of the maybe 8 or 9 phases of these (SD70MAC), only missing the first (different fuel tank, I think).
I got sucked in and, yes, got a whole BUNCH of them. Still waiting for the first phase, though.

Athearn October 2021 0:03 - Genesis - GP38-2 0:12 - Genesis - GP7 0:21 - Genesis - 2600 0:26 - RTR - Spine Car 0:30 - RTR - Container 0:35 - Roundhouse - FMC 5283 0:40 - N Scale - how about a CN Pacific Steam loco? - well, it's possible - one of the things with steam is they are so personalized not just by railroad but also often by number - hardest part about steam is the research - airplanes? - owned by Horizon, could talk to somebody - tentative release date for SW1500? - before the end of the year (not many months left...) - crop dusters would be cool. - practical if modeling the midwest - is there going to be an EMD DD35? - good question, did you put it into the product suggestion email. not only one to ask, nothing in plans now - any more surveys coming for upcoming loco paintschemes? - yes, will see more of that - will see a lot more surveys going into 2022 YouTube link

- how about a CN Pacific Steam loco? - well, it's possible - one of the things with steam is they are so personalized not just by railroad but also often by number - hardest part about steam is the research Someone should point that questioner to Rapido... If they can't generate the interest in it, I doubt Athearn could.

They have been asking for several weeks, I think I say a pointer to Rapido.
Though to be fair Rapido hasn't announced a CN Pacific, just the ten-wheeler H-6.

Still can't get an answer on the Barber Scheffel trucks they made for the TankTrain cars in HO and N scale. These are useful for other models and would be nice to have available separately. What's the point of tooling up a part if you only use it once?

Prefer the Proto Geeps simply because they are much easier to make GP20's out of.

So this is going to happen. Athearn's never sold these trucks as packaged parts, but we're going to add them. With current shipping backlog, they won't be available until 2022. They'll most likely arrive on the same container with the Tank Train cars that were announced March 2021. Hmmm.... How many do you have? I could probably use six pair.
