Wow they are some stellar cars! I see myself picking up a couple of the CSX patches. Although one thing did catch my eye with the as-delivered GONX, does something about the artwork seems off, is it just me?

Those sheet metal sides are great. Kinda reminds me of the Exactrail centerbeam. Oddly. Besides the photoengraved holes, it's nice that the top rail will have prototype width. Always bugs me about plastic gons. Most excellent, Blaine! Ed Yep, the brass centerbeam registered here too. This is one of those (oh how I hate this word) "paradigm shifts" that occur once in a blue moon. The bar has been raised. I still want a bunch of undecs. Unpainted preferably, but would be good with unlettered black and maybe a boxcar red.

I'm not really a big on gondolas, in part because they're rarely done well in models, but these ones look so good I might have to pick some up.

Blaine was probably right, a gondola was probably not on anyones guess list. Railgon was mentioned earlier in the thread. On July 3. So Blaine was wrrrrrooo?

Maybe he is referring to the lettering (Nationwide Gondola Pool) that is crooked, or how the yellow lettering and logo is much less vibrant that the rest of the yellow?
But I'll assume they are that way on a road number basis, per photos.

That's indeed what I'm referring to. But that's a good point you bring up, is the lettering intentionally crooked per prototype photos, or was there a misstep somewhere in the manufacturing process?

Weights printed on the cars are matched to the road numbers offered. This is a great detail--one I wish more manufacturers would incorporate into their models. Separate clichés are required in order to print the individual road numbers, so it is simple to change any of the other data as well (provided that the data is the same color as the road number.) Individual build dates, weights and placement of data can be varied and customized by road number, giving each car a unique appearance.

Wow, really impressive from the looks of the photos. I'm impressed by the brass side sheets. I know a few modelers have spent hours modifying other gons to have brass side sheets so that they can model the bulges better, so I'm glad to see that Arrowhead has done that for us. This car will be an excellent base for weathering! Gons weren't on my radar, but now they are. I'll need to do some research.

Wow, finally an accurate 1st edition Railgon. I'm more than happy to retire my Athearn/MDC ones. Ordered four Arrowhead cars to replace my four Athearn rtr ones that I "upgraded" (etched brake platforms, new coupler boxes). The Railgon was a really neat prototype. Blane referenced the TTX Story vol 2 book which covers the Railgon program among other TTX cars...and I remember how impressed I was left after reading the back story and design of the prototype cars.
Between these gons and the Tangent I-18 caboose, I'm beginning to think we have freight cars that are of superior detail and fidelity compared to current locomotive offerings....

Guess I don't see the hate for Value Trains. They are not after the market this group represents and I don't recall them ever claiming to be the next high end manufacturer.

The indication was that more are coming, this was just a small number shipped in by air so they would have something on hand at the announcement.

Blaine asked me to use his login to reply to the comment about the artwork. All the photos used are of pre-production models. That is noted in the video, but deserves emphasis elsewhere. The pad printing on the pre-production model is a little skewed. We have already addressed this with our manufacturer for production models.

When were the cars painted into CSX? Photo evidence of only one of the nine fully repainted, which is the one Blaine did. The CSX computer and photo evidence suggests a 2000 repaint.

It appears that for 1985 the chance of Rail-Gon appearing are slim and CSX is none. I can always justify it as supporting a new state of the art freight car. I bought a certain B&O caboose with that reasoning.

They produced the car for my 10th anniversary giveaway. There were 4 companies that offered to make an anniversary car for me, but valuetrains was able to completely produce in the U.S. and thus get the cars delivered quickly. I also chose them because buying several dozen boxcars to give away cost a pretty penny when considering all the associated costs plus the cost of the car. I was trying to limit wallet damage. They are very basic though in terms of detail. In terms of valuetrainsusa.com, they still exist and have regularly sold my box car and other cars on their website. They are good cars for a new modeler or someone practicing weathering. -James Wright

You can login to Lombard and place a pre-order for those CSX cars here: lombardhobby.com/pre-order/I called Lombard about an hour ago following Blaine’s advice (on Facebook) and apparently managed to get the last set of all three CSX cars they still had on hand. They had to pull them off the website when they got low because the orders were coming in so fast that they were concerned they would oversell and end up shorting some orders. They were selling them to people in the store as well as online, and the real-time inventory was struggling to keep up. The gentleman I spoke to was very helpful and had to put me on hold for a few minutes while they sorted out the remaining inventory. I was just glad to get them.

Much ado about nothing, a gondola. The question Alex is "Name two light-hearted English plays set in Italy." (With apologies to Shakespeare, Gilbert, and Sullivan.)
