Well here's the way I look at it. Over in o gauge land they are down to 1 major supplier. But here there's dozens. So great acquisition for them, has potential and all that -- good on them. But that's it. No more.

What was to be great news about ST buying MtH has turned out to be a gloom and doom, personality vs personality thread about the demise of ST. Call your local suicide prevention center because some of you sound you need to be put on a watch. MTH models are well done, if some of you can get past your anti MTH thinking. ST will tweak the models and sell a quality product just as they always have. It's not the end of ST. Get a grip people. It's still and always will be just toy trains.

A Scale Trains Museum Quality B & O Light Mikado with Rivet Counter passenger cars would, most likely, be sold out in no time.
The possibilities are endless and I would think any model railroader would be grateful to see more high-end quality products for years to come.

Just so we’re all on the same page about our plans for the MTH HO and S tooling… We are designing and tooling new motor mounts so the locomotives can use our motor. We’re also designing a new main board so we can utilize ESU-LokSound DCC & sound. We have no plans to extensively rework the external details of current MTH HO and S models. We’ve received feedback about potential dimensional and detail issues with specific products and will take the information under advisement. If the issue can be fixed with a limited amount of time and money, we may make the investment. If the issue cannot be resolved easily, we may continue with the model as is or retire it. Our team was a part of the GP7/9 and ES44 tooling acquisitions at our previous employer. We know how much time and money it cost to bring these models into the Genesis line. Starting from scratch would have been less time consuming and less expensive. If there is a current model in the MTH HO line-up that does not meet the Rivet Counter or Museum Quality standard and we believe there is a market in the Rivet Counter or Museum Quality lines, we’ll start the project from square one. MTH has designed and engineered several steam era locomotives, freight cars, and passenger cars that are yet to be tooled. Over the next several years, we’ll bring many of these projects to market. Since they are designed and not tooled, we will ensure they meet Rivet Counter or Museum Quality specifications. Thanks, Shane Shane Wilson President ScaleTrains.com, Inc.

it amazes me people love this company so much they can't even rationally discuss them; apparently they're Model Railroad Gods and do no wrong. I have no ScaleTrains products, and as such do not love them. In fact, a business practice of theirs annoys me enough that while I would still buy from them if they were the only option, if there was the option for purchasing from someone else I would. Not sure why it's hard to understand - the price the company who makes it sells it at, is the retail price. Anything they say about some other higher price is nonsense, because no one, anywhere, is selling at that price. Everyone else's "list" price, if they sell direct as Rapido or Atlas does, or even Tangent or Molocco, they sell it at that price. I note you conveniently left out Athearn, who for a while tried selling at a discount. But I'm not so sure what you don't understand - retail price has always been a made up number regardless of who sets it and under what circumstances. The SDL39 prices make it more than obvious how phony they are; "museum quality" or not, $325/$440 is beyond absurd, while $260/$350 is about in line with the high end of the market presuming there's about $50 of additional detail to justify it. That, will have to be seen when the model shows up. As noted, part of the price difference is to reflect lower sales volume - fewer units sold means charging a higher price to cover the fixed production costs. And assuming this is successful - and I see no reason it won't be - we will likely see more of it in the future as a way to produce other limited appeal models in a financially sustainable way. As to "expanding their dealer network" I don't read their posts, not interested really in what they do. For someone not interested in what they do you sure seem to comment about them an awful lot.

Lvrr325 you are perhaps the most toxic person on this message board. Its almost as you wake up every day to see if you can talk down on manufactures you do not like because they don't contribute to your own business.

I may need to build an additional layout just for steam and early diesels to accommodate these new Scale Trains releases.
For my slot car track, I will race a 1980 Porsche 935 against the latest LeMans/ IMSA prototypes and call it vintage racing.
For trains, I could run them all together...it's my railroad...right?
How about a Scale Trains ET44AH pulling modern coal hoppers passing a Scale Trains N & W #611 passenger excursion?

That's what I do for when the J Class comes to town. Or some eccentric billionaire has acquired a variety of old motive power / rolling stock and restored it to like new condition. Refer to rule #1.

Maybe we'll get a GS4 that pulls well and consistently runs without cracking it's gears???

Between the SD40-2s Scaletrains offers now and the MTH taconite jennies that could be re-released, one could assemble a killer Mid-80s BN taconite train. The caboose might take a bit of kitbashing effort, however.

I’m primarily excited for the unreleased steam era projects that will be done to Rivet Counter standards and the former S Helper Service line. If I may make one suggestion for the S scale line: tool up a common 40’ steel boxcar like the 1937 AAR and a common modern 50’ boxcar to give the S folks something new AND common that they currently lack.

I too am excited to see what ScaleTrains can do with the MTH tooling. Hopefully this MTH acquisition will not slow progress on development of new ScaleTrains projects though...
