AH HA!!! I found the original photograph, so I know whats behind the black box!!!
Not that I am saying that item is likely to be the model offered! I have my own opinion as to what the item is.
I will now be accepting bribes to either tell OR not to tell the item obscured!

I tell you what, if the new locomotive looks anything like the pictures Jason posted of the LRC on Facebook, I'm sold already!! www.facebook.com/rapidotrainsAlthough I wish it was the Rohr Turboliner, could it be a Alco S-3?

Has been posted elsewhere - by person who was at the 1980 NRHS meet in Toronto where that photo was taken - that the black box is actually covering something already done by Rapido and thus that leaves us with the RDC, SD35 and FP7A...
Sounds as if Rapido had already "covered" what is covered by the black box in the photo... My bet is on the new Rapido model being the RDC.

...even if you knew what was under the "blob", and I do, with Jason's typical sense of humour behind it, you'd still be wondering... ...we'll all have to wait until the 24th to truly find out, and then you'll understand what I've said in this post...
cheers,

Please note that Jason said there was something hidden by the blob. He did not say what was behind the blob was what was being announced.

Stop being a scared anonymous poster. Post the picture to PROVE it or tell us what the engine is that is under there. SIMPLE. Ok Al, here you go. The next Rapido model is right here @ the grassy knoll: You see, Jason's planted the seed for the next big announcement for 2015 way back in 1963 on that fateful day in Dallas. The Temporal police are furious at him for messing with the time line.....again.

Either Jason swore him to secrecy or he is one of those type who gets jolly's dangling curious people like a cat plays with a mouse. Enjoying yourself Michael? More than likely whatever it is, it probably wouldn't be on the radar of a SP or D&RGW fan based on Rapido's repertoire (mostly northeast-north America); I think it's entirely fair that the Canadian modelers are finally getting stuff that is specific to them however so I'm not jealous at all! So far about the only engine Jason is offering that's even close for me is the phase 1 F40PH so he'll finally get his hooks in me! Rapido makes excellent models. Anyway for this new announcement I'm just pulling up a chair and getting some popcorn to watch the festivities!

Behold! That must be the first locomotive ever designed by committee. Now we have lots of them - they are called SD70M-2s. Who needs one roof line when you can have seven or eight? -Jason

Judging by the shape of the black blob I would guess that the new model is a state of the art steam loco tender.

A thought has just occurred to me, maybe we're trying too hard to see something in the photo that's been staring us in the face all along - the FP7!
Both CP and ONR had them in Canada, and many U.S. roads had them as well.
Producing an FP7 would possibly allow Rapido to leverage more value out of their investment in producing the FP9s.

Well a little research and I found when the picture was taken but cannot find that picture. Was taken during the 1980 NRHS convention in Toronto. That is Southern FP7 with N&W SD35 1518, why these two are together I don't know as the merger is 2 years away for Southern and N&W. These two laid over at the roundhouse which I cannot remember the name. Knowing the time and the where someone should find more.
