I've owned the brass Overland Models factory painted Santa Fe SD40-2 from circa 1997 or 1998 run. They had their issues too--from the way the screens were executed in perforated corrugated stainless steel that was too easy to clog with paint, to the noticeable sag in the entire model (frame appeared straight but the body did not appear to be straight).

can also recall Brass SD40-2s by PSC circa 1980. they had self contained Power Trucks, cant recall what PSC called them ? and W&N about 1983/84,they did Snoots also.think they had the enclosed KMT Drive with Can motors. OMI may have done earlier 80s SD40-2s also ? Spikre

Not really. All you need to do is ignore all the No's in the above histogram. What you're left with is a distribution skewed towards the lower end of the price range (no surprises). Poll valid ( says someone with a Six Sigma BB certification a little over a decade ago )

Fine, although the photos of the Intermountain Santa Fe unit don't look too bad, I can see the corrugated grills are a bit too pronounced even in the photos.
I just bought a new old stock Kato Santa Fe SD40 #5003 instead...at a much cheaper price to boot. It's a Kato--I can't go wrong with that.
I guess for SD40-2's I'll just buy more units of the Bowser Canadian version. Did order one CP as delivered 81" nose version this week. Was told "they may be in by June".

The SD40-2 has been extremely popular over the years but it has been done by many manufacturers. The Kato model is a bargain at the old stock price if you can find them and the EMD rebuilding program might give the SD40-2 new life. I like the CP version with the flair type radiators. They have a new designation but we might see one of those models in the future. Larry.
