CN GP9RM's and CP GP9U's.. Please! Already announced by Bowser. To be fair, it wasn't a formal announcement, just something they mentioned on social media. I believe Bowser also mentioned plans to do the standard-cab GMD GP38-2.

Reruns of stuff already released, but released in short supply, or long sold out would be nice.
If it has to be new, then MKT and Alaska GP49s would be nice (though utterly useless to what I am modeling!!).

I'm hoping for an SW-1001. I hope to build an L shaped switching layout, I need to stay away from 6 axle power.

Would love the Alco T-6 switcher, and maybe a new-tooling Alco RSD-12 from Atlas.

Most of the posts above don't seem to answer the question posed by the thread's topic. Several specify what the participants WANT to see produced, not what they think WILL be produced.
I'll mention two loco types that were announced quite a while back but I think actually will be produced this year, both from Bowser. First, the all new Phase III RS-3's, still listed on the firm's website as expected in "late 2017". Second, the new run of Alco Century 628's.

Just like the clamor for the return of Athearn “Blue Box” kits, the clamor for more undecorated model locomotives is most likely not going to make it happen. Simply put, model RR manufacturers are businesses, and if Blue Box and undecs were in big demand and profitable they would be produced. The hard reality is that vocal proponents of undecs on this and other modeling forums are in fact a tiny fraction of model train buyers and unfortunately do not buy nearly enough undec kits to make them profitable to produce.

Agree with CSXT. I was told of one project where preorders of an undecorated diesel were in the two digits ie below 100. I suspect but cannot prove that the undecorated "fans" are fully encompassed by the usual suspects inhabiting this and perhaps a couple other forums.
If undecorated is so hot, then where are the GP10's? Oh wait, most paint schemes are already available or in the pipeline...surely there are exceptions, but...

The quality of the assembled models at times is really atrocious. When you wait a year for a model and you get a lemon, it totally sucks, especially for the amount paid. But, I digress.....
More undecorated models would be great, but in reality, I'm not holding my breath.
I'd like to see more detail parts and better detail parts. When you look at the current crop of detail parts from makers like Detail Associates and Details West some of them date back the 70's and 80's are not that great when compared with parts on the factory painted models. So, why buy an undecorated? Well, since workmanship, paint colors and broken parts are a thing which in commonplace in factory assembled models, then a super undecorated kit with all the detail parts for that model would seem to be a great idea. But, I'm also a realist and know that isn't likely to happen.
For models, I'd like to see something in my era of interest. A GE U25B, an early U33C, GP35(the old Rail Power shell from Athearn is a 100 shades of wrong and crude) and Kato's model is still stuck in the late 80's-early 90's), GP30, GP20, SD45, SD40, SD24 and a SD18.

The problem for you, Jim - and a handful of us picky modelers - is that your "atrocious" is most people's "good enough." In fact, it's better than good enough for most.
I think the future of detail parts is 3D printing. I don't mean to come in this thread and start banging that drum, but as the tech gets better we'll see things like accurate five chime horns - in Z scale - not to mention what can be done in the larger scales.

Part of the problem, is the online hobby shops when they list the reservations, do not even list the undecorated kits as available to order, even when you know the importer is bringing them in, so you have to do a lot more work and phone calls etc. to even get them preordered. I'd love an Alaska GP49, but doubt they will ever be done as the railroad mounting of the unique snow plow to each engine necessitated the removal of the front steps and new steps added further back on the frame. www.railpictures.net/images/d1/5/6/0/7560.1133564400.jpgRick Jesionowski

As a D&RGW standard gauge modeler in the 1970's, I am honestly having a hard time coming up with suggestions for this list. That's a good thing BTW! It probably has something to do with Rio Grande's practice of standardizing their fleet of engines to a fairly limited number of EMD models, and non-exotic EMD models at that. From the late 1960's, yard switchers, road switchers and road power, all EMD.
Post 1966ish:
-SW1000 -SW1200 -F7 -F9 -GP7 -GP9 -GP30 -GP35 -GP40 -GP40-2 -GP60 -SD7 -SD9 -SD45 -SD40T-2 -SD50
I don't know - it doesn't get much simpler than that for a class I RR. Have I forgotten anything. So in the grande scheme of things, no pun intended, honest, I can't complain much since there have been "decent" models offered for every one of those engines - well, the SW1200 has never been offered in D&RGW but if Walthers follows through this summer, I can check that box too.
Of course D&RGW modelers prior to the mid-1960's are not out of the woods until that much asked for Kraus Maffai is made in an HQ model and steam era D&RGW modelers, not sure if their ship will ever come in, in standard gauge plastic. If that miracle were ever to occur, I will do more than eat my hat, I'll buy one or more!
Edit: even though it is a bit difficult to think of models I'd like to see announced this year, I can think of a few.
- Athearn Genesis GP7 in the late switcher scheme. While most were retired in 1972, before my modeling date, at least one lasted until the early 1980's. And since Genesis includes specialized versions, they could include it.
- Walthers SW1200 - I only list this because Walthers has a bad habit of cancelling orders and they have listed the D&RGW SW1200 as due late 2017, slipped to mid Jan 2018, and now pushed back to summer 2018. I really hope it makes it to market! It's the one of the only D&RGW models I never obtained.
- Any GP or SD never produced before with the nose signal light, I'd like to see offered with it: GP30,GP35, GP40 mainly. I think I would otherwise make a mess of a nose myself.

I'm kind off buying locomotives any more, for my layout and focus I could easily get by with any more new ones - (I wouldn't bother with KM's even if somebody did them as they are out of era. lasted about 2 years and operated in my locale infrequently) Right now I have 1 Athearn Tunnel Motor reserved with the my LHS and want to buy one Kato GP35 for a wreck rebuild D&RGW unit. I do think a new GE U25B would sell, lots of great selling roadnames, other early GE's would be nice too.

Mark, I hear you! I'm fast approaching not needing or wanting more engines too and even looking at thinning the heard a bit, which is an ongoing process anyway.
There are a few "long wanted" engines I would still layout money for:
- the SFZ SDP40F with ice breakers (which is a couple years off by all indications) Wallet is safe for a year or two.
- the SW1200 with Loksound, which Walthers is hopefully releasing this summer if Walthers can manage it.
- the box nose mount tunnel motors coming this fall, been badgering Athearn for a couple of those for years.
Other than that, I really need to buckle down work on what I got, since I am embarrassed to admit I have more than I can really use (like many ambitions have been unrealistic).
Re: KM's, I'm not buying any either if they do come out. It has been interesting reading about them from a history angle, but they are totally out of my time frame, they will probably be insanely expensive and I don't have budget for something frivolous, and like you said, they weren't even on the property for three years. If they are made, I'll be happy enough that fans are getting their desired prize.

In 2018, I will not be surprised at least some of the following HO locomotives announced and/or released: 1. Athearn (either R-T-R or Genesis) SDP40 2. Bowser SD40 - probably a formal announcement with more CAD drawing or test shots 3. Scaletrains SD40-2 and C39-9 - more roadnames 4. More roadnames for the Bachmann USRA Mikado and/or Pacific 5. InterMountain SD40T-2, GP16, or C44-9 [or maybe the SD38-2]
My personal "wish list" is a little different and a lot shorter as I have enough to work on right now. Besides couple of "would be nice" locomotives, I would like to see the following: 1. Genesis GP38-2 in the CSX "Dark Future" scheme 2. Scaletrains SD40-2 in the CSX "Bright Future" scheme

Are you sure about that one? =P I think the IMRC SD40T-2 is very nearly in classic vaporware status! Any bets on whether it will see the light of day this year. When was it first announced? Can anyone remember? I've lost count how many times it's been delayed. It must be a contender for a record.
Don't get me wrong, IMRC is actually one of my favorite manufacturers - but the tunnel motor is in a class of it's own.

LOL, that's a bet that I would be afraid to take as I agree with you about the IMRC SD40T-2 nearing "vaporware" status. A quick check on the 'Net has a posting that IMRC announced it in 4/15, so we are pushing 3 years now. The only reasons I mention about possible seeing in 2018 is that they showed a shell for one at a recent train show [Trainfest?] and them possibly trying to beat the improved R-T-R SD40T-2's to the market [as what happened between them and Scaletrains with the Tier 4 GEVO]. Similarly, the only reason I mentioned their SD38-2 is that they already have the chassis and drive-train developed for it. However, they really do need to tool up new triple-clasp trucks for it. IMRC also claims that they will have their Dash-9 on the shelves by May. Normally, I would say, "Of what year?" But, they wasted no time with the Tier 4 once ST announced their model, so...

Athearn RTR SD40T-2 is a very good model, and with revisions, could be made into a Genesis level model. They pretty much do it all for them now, MU hoses, coupler pin lifter; snow plow; They even revised the rear truck to where the gear box isn't as obvious in that area...to enhance the see-through intake effect.

SD40T-2, IM yuck, please no; their GP10 is nice, but the SD40-2 is hopeless. Maybe Scale Trains will step in with a good T-2 before IM gets around to it. While their SD40-2 was underwhelming, I wouldn't say it was hopeless. The problem is that it needs a lot of help from Cannon, DA, DW, etc. to look good. I think I added and/or replaced the plows, MU hoses, spare knuckle holders, the hatch on the nose, the horn, the flange lubricator on mine. The other problem is that their graphics had issues which kept me from buying the L&N, FLS, and SBD ones. Fixing details are one thing, but repainting the entire model - I might as well start with an undec. At least that way I won't have to worry about knocking off the details that I want to keep when stripping the factory paint. The SD40T-2 is coming at some point. Carrman photographed the pre-production sample at Trainfest in 2017 that I shamelessly borrowed: HO IMRC SD40T-2 sample
