Awesome!…Awesome!!…Awesome!!!
Multiples for me.
Now if some comapany….let’s say one located in western North Carolina….would come out with the cabooses needed to run behind these…I’d be one happy camper!
Are you listening DL???

WOW WOW WOW now this is exciting news!!! Looks like I'll be selling off my Bowser U 25 units. More U boats down the road Rapido?...like the U-30,33,34CH,36 would be awesome. Another one to add to my growing list of Rapido pre-orders.... E-8's, NE cabeese, trailers, X72 boxes....some big hits coming to my wallet.

I’m assuming the PC units will have black handrails, that the yellow is just to make them stand out in the illustration?

Man these look good. I wish I had a reason to get a few of them. CPT&C only had three turbo charged locomotives. Three phase I GP30's of which two got deturboed and rerated at 2800 hp from wreck rebuilds and the third was sent to NYC in trade for a GP7.
These U25B's do look good in cad though. WOW, they look good and tempting. I do hope Rapido does a killer job on them. This is one locomotive that I think has been a long time overdue.

It looks like Rapido is first going to release the ex-NH Penn Central U25Bs which makes sense as they are also releasing the NH U25Bs. I will probably wait for an ex-PRR PC units as the NH ones seemed to stay close to ex-NH rails. The NH units had yellow handrails and the PC did not prepare the surfaces very well before adding a coat of black so many of these ex-NH units had yellow handrails near the end of the PC era.....but some black paint remained. Here is a link to an ex-NH U25B in PC paint in the early PC era: www.rr-fallenflags.org/pc/pc2664cbb.jpg

That is a good point Tom. Although, Rapido is not offering weather beaten locomotives. So even though PC did not prep the handrails well. They were still black in the beginning and should be on the Rapido model I would think. Returning them to a chipped up black and yellow would then be the modelers option. Unless of course Rapido is advertising them as weather beaten models pre weathered for your enjoyment.

What was wrong with the Stewart units? Rapido was asked by me to do if they’d consider the RS3, they said Stewart was coming out with one, they felt it wouldn’t sell? Stewart’s RS3 been coming for how long now? The H16-44 is a hard sell, not a big player and limited time frame..Considering the complaints about Rapido, I think I’d go with the Stewart u boat.

I don't think Stewart is coming out with anything new, since they have been gone for 17 years.

The Stewart/Bowser U25 was on the display case at the hobby shop. So much hype and nobody wanted to look at it closely.
Oversized windshield wipers started it. Might have been good 40 years ago, not now.

Never assume with Rapido! Indeed. I wonder whose U25B they found to make a scan of? What was it the TTI had, U25Bs or U28Bs? They might've scanned one the same day they did the B36-7 scan (and we all know how that turned out).

I know this is getting ahead of things, but how much of the U25B is the same on the “C”? Obviously the truck and fuel tank are different, but is the carbody just longer with a couple more doors?

Trains magazine years ago, I'll see if I can find it in my stash, explained how GE decided to get into making locomotives instead of just supporting the electronic components for Alco.
Great article, and at the time the original U25B demonstrator, after years of service, was traded back to GE and was sadly used as a paint testbed.
Hopefully GE restored this locomotive.

I'd be shocked if they did another U25C when the Rivarossi one pretty well filled the market.
The U25B demo was scrapped.
Stewart no longer exists. Bowser can't fix the U25B marker lights without an expensive retool, they've done what they can with it but it's like 30 years old.
However I think just the existence of the Bowser model, which was hard to sell for 10% over cost the last round I had, is going to prevent this from being a huge seller, just the guys looking for a better one will want it, the average guy will see he can get Bowser for less and buy those.

Scanned at Southern California Railway Museum, done at the same time as the E8 scan, per the product webpage.

Saying a 30 year old Stewart/Bowser U25B will hurt sales of the Rapido U25B is as like saying you can have the old Stewart/Bowser F unit, or a Genesis F unit.

I think he means by the Bowser unit already being out there on layouts and on the used market will mean that some people will keep what they have or buy a used one on the cheap.

The Illinois Railway Museum has a Milwaukee U25B that would have been pretty good to scan since it is not a rebuild.

They also went and measured two other units (can't remember what they mentioned as the locations in the session).
