Well, this opens it up for everyone who complains that Tangent hasn't released a particular paint scheme that you really need to model May 2, 1975. If you are confidant that Tangent has made a colossal business mistake by not releasing it, you can put your money where your mouth is. Order 200 units, since they will sell out instantly. You could even have put on a foobie "Fertilizer service only. When empty, return car to atlasrescueforum."
From the Tangent FAQs:
Do you allow custom runs of product? How much does it cost? What are the minimum quantities?
We do offer custom runs of product. Minimum product quantity is 150 units. Artwork fees are extra. We provide pricing particulars after you provide a plan for what you want to do: paint scheme, ideal number of units requested, etc. Pricing depends on quantity of units requested. Discounts start after 192 units.

New on the model railroading scene is Homeshops. Good friend Chris Palmieri has teamed up with Tangent to do custom runs of freelance railroads. It seems that we have had our own fictional railroads and enjoy reading about others as well. Gee, I wish I had a TG&N car to run on my layout. Well why not?! But Chris decided to go one better. We are all familiar with Accurail cars but he decided to go with a higher end car. He contacted other freelancers and got the green light from Tangent. His first run will be the PS 4750 in 7 freelance railroads, four numbers for each car. He’s also got other cars and other freelance railroads in the pipeline. He was recently on the Modelers Life podcast ep. 174 to explain his concept. He can be found on Facebook and on the web at Homeshops.net. Homeshops.net. homeshops.net/Joe, Thanks for your support and for cutting me in on this conversation! There is quite a range of responses.... By the way - congratulations on your Arkansas Valley car! The Home Shops website launched only two days ago and the AV PS-4750's are leading the pack with 82 cars (of 260 AV cars) pre-sold! I became an AV fan almost 40 years ago when I saw your first blue-and-white Alco! As modelers who enjoy the freelance side of the hobby add these cars to their collections and layouts, the work you have put into developing the AV concept adds depth to all of the new host railroads. Many thanks to those who are supporting the launch of Home Shops! We are proud of the work that went into our first release and expect these Limited Edition cars to be sought after for some time! It looks like there are a few questions on here - many are actually addressed on our Blog and our FAQ page at I am also available by e-mail at ShopForeman@homeshops.net if anyone would like to reach out. Respectfully, Christopher M. Palmieri

Interesting concept, I like it! I always thought David barrows'.. I think I spelled his name wrong.. anyway the Cat Mountain Santa Fe domino layouts that were often featured in MR back in the 90's and early 2000's always made my imagination run wild. I would love to see something like that in the future. The 4750 would be an excellent model to put the Cmsf paint job on. I hope this goes well for them.

You could even have put on a foobie "Fertilizer service only. When empty, return car to atlasrescueforum." Oh, the absolute irony. But then judging by your post history, you clearly have a chip on your shoulder about prototype modeler guys, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Clearly I’m outnumbered here. Blows my mind what people will get behind and how far they will ‘move the goalposts’ when it’s the trendy thing to do——let’s not forget that ***Tangent was started to provide prototypical models; That’s the mission statement and the whole reason it exists in the first place.*** Remember the stink on the old Atlas forum that got raised when the SP covered hopper in the first PS 4000 run didn’t match exactly? Dave was accused of making foobies at 42 dollars each? [And no, it wasn’t me on that one.] We go from that, to this? Seriously? Whatever. Enjoy your Fantasy Choo-Choo echo chamber thread, lads.

I’d order one, as I love the humor of mixing those in, but unfortunately I don’t think any of them made it to the Pacific Northwest… Funny you should mention that. 3 of the Ambassador fleet cars (AV, G&SI, MCIS) have been on display at the Whistlestop in Portland for the past 2 weeks. Tomorrow Brian Sopke will be at the three local train clubs to photograph them in service in the Pacific Northwest. They have made it out this far.

Pretty sure there’d be an outcry if Tangent was offering these are prototypical. But they’re not, so why does it matter to you? If someone wants to pony up the money to have a company factory paint cars for their fictional railroad, why do you care? Tangent has already done it with the Allagash gons, and it says right on their website they’re willing to do it. Get off your high horse, and quit whining about something that doesn’t affect you.

You know what, on second thought, I might be coming around on these.
These’ll look good orbiting around the Christmas tree. I’ve got a Tyco GP20 and a Bachmann Docksider I can MU together to pull them with. have to change out those pesky Kadees first. X2Fs are far more applicable.

And one more question. Can somebody please advise if these will be compatible with Tyco brass track?
One thing is certain, I am going to make an effort to not run these on the family room rug! Those carpet fibers can really work a number on the axles! Hard to untangle outta there, too! I’ll never do that again, yeesh!

I checked the EL wheel report collection right away!
Unfortunately, none of them showed up, but admittedly the collection is not statistically significant, so there is always the possibility that one or two would have ventured into the northeast on EL rails. I just spent my budget for the month on the new 86' Greenvilles, though, so I'm out for the time being.

Well, since this now my 18th post since December 2013, I can't say I have a chip on my shoulder about prototype modeler guys. Most of my posts have been clarifying information or commenting about the Timonium show. I think people who replicate specific prototype equipment are fantastic in their efforts. I just don't get in a snit about "dabblers" or proto-freelancer or complete fantasy modelers. Is it only okay to paint a SD70ACe in Wabash but to do in Great Northern blue is blasphemy? For what's it's worth, I've used "foobie" equipment (like the Details West/Athearn 50' double plug door) for proto-freelanced and/or friends railroads while reserving the Atlas version for modeling the prototypes.

I really don’t understand all the negativity and insults toward these models. They appear to be high quality Tangent models painted in freelance paint schemes and I assume they will be sold under the Homeshops name and not Tangent. Comparing Tangent models to Tyco? Really?
Before anyone sticks their noses up to these so called “foobies” they might want to take a look at the endorsement by Dave Abeles on the Homeshops website that includes photos of these models on his freelanced Conrail Onondaga cutoff layout. This layout was recently featured on the cover of Model Railroader and I’m willing to bet that few, if any of the naysayers and box openers here have a layout that can compare with his.

Here's a link to Chris Palmieri's 'proto-freelanced' railroad. Very nice work as I see it. www.meridianspeedway.net/Back in the day, there used to be an active little market in trading freelanced models and decals. It was fun and I exchanged more than a few. Good for this new venture and Tangent. There still is quite a market for well done foobs and even those not done well! I have some of my in-house creations spread out on almost a dozen layouts throughout the US. Some of those layouts have whole industrial quarters devoted to a fictitious mineral substance in which the humor of my tankers and hopper cars lie.
I have found at least one person on another forum who has copied my work and has been trading it around!
Part of this hobby certainly is imagination and for those able to have fun and still have some imagination, there will always be a place for tongue-in-cheek road names and industries.
Not long ago someone on my usual forum found a whole bunch of Laureldale Central rolling stock on eBay. Laureldale is a suburb of industrial Reading, PA and someone decided to make it his home road. When I was a kid I used to run through Laureldale on the way to camp in the Poconos and could not wait to see the READING trains by the Carpenter Steel Mill in that town. That was my annual view of industrial railroading back in the day.
I told my friend- "name your price" and I bought the best of that lot simply for the nostalgic value.

I think you’ll be pleased to learn, I did just that this afternoon! My GP20 and Docksider were looking lonely, so I wondered out back to the shed and got my Blinking oil Tank, Baby Ruth boxcar, and Wesson oil tank car. Now the scene is filled in better. Come January, with the help of this announcement, it will look even better! Thanks for the suggestion, good sir!

I'm not sure who did the research for this upcoming release, but the Arkansas Valley cars should have body color trucks and not black ones. The Kansas Pacific road number series are Thrall 4750s not PS cars so that's a complete FOOBIE there and the T&GN cars should have the lettering offset to the right and not centered. Hopefully they get it all fixed before they go to production. Yes, I emailed the manufacturer and let them know and provided pictures and documents. Can't even get accurate cars anymore from the big name manufactures.

Dave isn’t the only well known modeler to take a liking to Homeshops. If you listen to the podcast, you will recognize a couple of guys that are giving high fives to Chris and Homeshops. All of these first road names are fairly well known on the Facebook groups. We all hope to be famous and grace the covers of MR or RMC someday. This could be the start of something big!! As far as the AV goes, it’s been around for 40 plus years. Never has been covered by any of the mags. But its first big fan was Andy Sperandeo. So every time I see a blue and white MR&T engine in MR, I look up and smile and say, “Thank you, Andy”.

Well atsfan, I see you have a new username. Don't know why you would think I'm Bruce F (I'm not) because if you've ever seen his posts on Trainorders you would know he is a stickler for signing his real name on every post and chastising others for not doing so.
