Just curious, assuming I understand how you're mounting the draft gear, but would it be easier (and retain the weight) to just drill oversized holes in the weights at the locations where the mounting screws will go? I love cabooses of all flavors, so I'm looking forward to this project. I want to eventually model these two CSX cabooses, which are kind of oddballs in the large fleet of former Chessie bay windows that survive today. Gerard photo from the RR Picture Archives) Martin, your Soo caboose looks great! Makes one wonder how or why CSX ended up with an ex-N&W caboose. Logically you'd assume it would have been absorbed into NS and either sold to a short line or scrapped.

The CSX Historical Society has a good summary of how it came about. Long story short: The Hagerstown (MD) Roundhouse Museum wanted a Western Maryland caboose for their collection and traded the N&W caboose to CSX for the last WM caboose that was still in service: CSX's ex-N&W CabooseNot sure when the trade took place. I’ll see if any of my CSX references mention the date of disposition for the WM caboose. Dave
