Yes, every time a new, high caliber model is announced, ebay starts filling up with listings of the previous versions, some junk and some decent in quality (although $1495 for that Overland unit is beyond ridiculous!). The "Unloading" has indeed begun! And now the eBay sell off begins of the hard to find FL9's...just checked out listings under "New Haven HO" and 2 Athearns re-creations with Branford shells(?), & 1 Overland Brass are up for sale. I wonder why? Good luck to those 2 sellers trying to sell them off at those price.... Branford-Athearn 1 starting at $195 plus $18 shipping. Gak! www.ebay.com/itm/251585885897Branford-Athearn 2 starting at $195 plus $18 shipping. I'll play Antiques Roadshow host here and place a value at auction of $50-$60. The shell looks rough. I wouldn't pay over scrap value. If I owned any of these Branford models I'd list with a starting price low enough to attract a bid because in the coming year they're probably going to be worth even less. www.ebay.com/itm/251585877886Overland starting at $1,495 plus $24 shipping. Front windows look funky. I'd much rather have the Rapido unit, sight unseen. www.ebay.com/itm/261532341685Slide of a NH unit with some decent weathering: www.ebay.com/itm/311011283045Who will weather their PC unit as heavily as this: www.ebay.com/itm/371097702587

The "Unloading" has indeed begun! I agree with the ridiculous price of the OMI model, I paid $625 for a newer CDOT version FL9 brand new when they came out but I think some guys think they have gold. I still think the Rapido unit will blow the OMI out of the water even though the OMI is nice the etched brass doesnt do detail that well.

Yeah, I could easily survey 109 people within a 25 mile radius of where I live and the majority would be either CN, CP or C&O. Mark. Of course it would, that's why I did it via a forum that has no geographic or railroad bias. So, 109 people surveyed out of how many actual model railroaders world-wide, give conclusive evidence as to the ratio of railroads modelled ? A rather pointless venture that would be impossible to establish with any accuracy. Even if you polled every forum and even every magazine, the results would still be off the mark because a vast majority do not participate in online forums, and who bothers to mail in survey cards ? I just don't see the point. Mark.

someone had to put that pic of the "Blood Sucker" or "Leach" Talgo train here. now Jason will want to model it and call it a U.S. Model we'll ignore that ACF did build some circa 1948/50,but they at least had a loco that looked like a witch doctor shrunk an F unit to 3/4 size. Spikre

Wonder why there is so much SP on Trainorders?
"Hello fellow train enthusiasts! The story of Trainorders.com began in the Spring of 1997 when while railfanning with a good friend in Tehachapi I had the idea bringing the Tehachapi railroad experience online. That obsession led to the development of the Internet's first web train activated webcam which I called the "RailCam."
In the first week of August 1997, Trainorders.com was launched with the Tehachapi webcam. Within three months Trainorders.com was seeing over 1000 daily visitors. Later that year a second webcam was installed in the town of Dunsmuir on the Shasta Route in successful effort to encourage rail enthusiasts to vacation there. " "

It is what it is... I never said it was the end-all survey. Like I said, the results are significant. Piople over-estimate the the sample size needed to meet a significance test. Also, take a look at Train Orders "Nostalgia & History" forum. Most-popular SP has by far the largest number of posts. It's not even close. Anecdotal, but hard to ignore. And those are some big numbers over the years. ATSF, UP, and RI also get many comments. Not surprising. It's a west coast board based in California. That might skew the postings a bit.

The "Diesels" list I did my survey on is based in Indiana, yet SP came out with 2X the number of votes as UP. And that causes an uproar. Why didn't Monon or N&W or NKP do better? Remind us again why this even matters. Has Rapido chosen to do the wrong locomotive?

Remind us again why this even matters. Has Rapido chosen to do the wrong locomotive? It's the right, "lonnnnnng" overdue locomotive. Have to admit that out of all of the new announcements threads I've seen on various forums over the years......this one has been the most colo rful and interesting to say the least!

Oh wait...can't really complain about them doing this F-unit

But the SP modelers are still busy paying off their SDP45s and U50s.

Remind us again why this even matters. Has Rapido chosen to do the wrong locomotive? Who said Rapido "did the wrong locomotive"? Not me- NH is my favorite eastern railroad. The FL9, proto and model, is a great looking and historically inportant loco. I love the FL9 too and think its an excellent choice for Rapido. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't care about the minutia of whether SP is most popular or not. Call me crazy. Many people do.
