Ello, ello from sunny Michigan! I've got a bit of a layout, NCE, DCC, scale miles of HO track down and room for more to fit on my 500 sq foot table I've made. DON'T ask me about drop feeds, I've been kicked off forums for trying to tell folks you don't need that many. Yea, I'm THAT guy, I've still not added a feed beyond the ONE I have on the 600 feet of track I'm running on. Na,na,na boo, boo!
I'm "so lucky" my "anomaly" was neglected for a month and I cranked that sucker up yesterday and ran two loco's over every inch and NO TROUBLE was my reward! Even my BLI Steamer took the figure 8 without dusting off the track and it ran every inch no worries! I'm NOT that lucky and I'm no electrical merlin or anything of the sort, just a guy who laid some track and put the power to it and ran some trains.
I did not know what I was not supposed to be able to do, sorry if I DID what the "pro's" say you cannot! My advice to newbs is do as YOU see fit and don't let anyone tell you what to do with YOUR toys!
Heard this was a 'contentious' site and was a little leery to come over but I'm running out of places to post my odious and heretical comments! I'd like to be a useful member of the community and help out newcomers to the hobby if I can.
Thanks and keep on with the HAPPY ROLLING!

I happened across the forum and when I saw Atlas, it sparked my interest. I have been working on my layout now for about 30 years. When I was starting my freelance layout, Athearn locomotives were probably the best bang for the buck at the time UNTIL Atlas brought out their Also locomotives with the Kato drive. I got one to see how well it ran and I was sold. My main fleet of locomotives are Also RS-1's, RS-3's and RS-11's. They may be old, but they still run like a Swiss watch.
I grew up with relatives working on both the Northern Pacific and the Milwaukee Road in southwestern Montana. With the space I have available, I couldn't do justice to either railroad, so I decided to freelance and have a short line/bridge line railroad that connects to the Northern Pacific at Logan, MT and runs south to Gallatin Gateway, MT where it connects to the Milwaukee Road and then runs south to West Yellowstone, MT where it connects to the Union Pacific. All of the towns on my layout are real towns, though changed to reflect the presence of a railroad and how the towns could have grown.
I model the transition era, 1957 to be exact. During this time I did ride with my relatives on steam, diesel and electric locomotives.
Here is a video (old) flyover of the layout.
Improvements have been made to the layout since this video with a lot more planned. It is a point to point layout with a yard and engine facility at each end. The layout was build mainly for switching, but with the use of hidden staging tracks, a train can run continuously.

Hello from Maine. Thanks for letting me join. I'm back after many years out of the hobby (mid 90s). I like a pretty wide variety of railroads eras and equipment but mostly 1950s New England and for verity Union Pacific 40s- 80s so I'll likely have plenty of questions.

Hello All,
Just a quick howdy after just discovering this forum while searching what had become of Overland Models Inc., BTW still showing their "Web and Price List Updated" as June 2013. Figured they were utilizing Facebook these days and after a Google search, found this forum. Thank you, as I have missed the original Atlas and like many, sad to see it go. Can't wait to catch up on everything!

Hi. I have just joined the Forum. I have a USA O scale layout in West Australia based loosely in the early 60's the layout or idea for it only exists in the owners mind. At the present time I am building a Steel mill for it which will keep me busy for the next year or so. Thanks. Neville.

Hi there, I've been into trains for the last 27 years. I've built three layouts, and starting my fourth. I'm building a wall mounted type layout this time and i think that's the best way to go. I look at this forum for advice and inspiration. There are some fantastic helpful threads, the photos are great, & the people are too. Looking forward to contributing to the photo threads about what I'm working on each week, no matter what it is. See you on the other side of the tracks!

New here been modeling since 1970 started with an O-27 as a Christmas gift, then got an N scale Aurora postage stamp set the next Christmas, then in 1975 received my first ho Tyco set (yea I know), 1980 bought my first Athearn engine that started my ho era until atlas released quality N in the 1990's, then in 2016 I returned to ho where I plan on staying.
Thanks for allowing me in

Oh yeah! And resist gravity, ship Rio Grande. hah hah.
Before moving to northern Virginia to seek employment during the recession, I worked as a geologist plugging abandoned oil wells for Shell oil company mostly in north-east Pennsylvania (Bradford area and Oil City area) and west Virginia (northern part). Coal trains are fun to model, in my 1970's D&RGW were mostly unit trains. Enjoy!

I've always liked the BN but I grew up in Davis/Sacramento in the 1970's where SP was my local RR. I took some trips to Colorado in the early 1980's to drive my sisters to Aspen Music camp not far from Glenwood Springs and got hooked on the Rocky Mountains, and the Utah Desert too. BN was always up there though and because they were a friendly connection throughout the 1970's I have made sure I have a fair number of BN freight cars, including Tangent's DryFlo and Airslides, among others.

Oh yeah! And resist gravity, ship Rio Grande. hah hah. Ya just had to do did ya well did ya lol. Was getting ready to switch back to n scale and a buddy just traded me a non sound dcc ready Genisis Athearn F45 to paint him some N scale cars and an engine in exchange for the F45. Couldn't pass up the deal i had the stuff he wanted, how hard is it to paint 1980's UP stuff. Already have the F45 stripped since this is a western unit pre se my road is relocating back to the west as the F45 is one of my most favorite unit's next to the bulldog F unit. Posting pics later I hope lol.

Will do and you can never have enough locos or cars. This unit will be going into my freelance roads colors. But basing the unit off of the BN Roster. BN has such a nice roster to work with as a guide. Yup definitely going western road now. Oh by the way my avitar might end up being a Utah Belt SD40-2 hmmmmmmmmmmm maybe

There is that, but I have more than I may realistically be able to run.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how it turns out! I always liked the paint and logo of BN.
Hah hah, Utah is another road with a cool paint scheme. With me doing the west end of D&RGW, I'm modeling a Utah Rwy coal train end of the 1970's. In fact I just picked up a Utah RSD-15 to go with my 3 RSD-4/5's. But one of theme is a duplicate number - I've always hoped I'd find someone with a 2nd run Atlas RSD4 I could train for my duplicate 1st run RSD4. But it seems any Atlas Utah RSD 4/5 is rare as hens teeth.

The Utah Rwy was a neat alco hold out then they got the F45's from BN and it lost it's uniqueness.
I was referencing Eric Broomans freelanced Utah Belt.
Plan on having some Grande pool unit's like SD45's & T-2's.
And yes your Utah Rwy alco's are rare as hens teeth don't think i've seen one in years.

For sure. In the mid-1980's I had moved to Texas after finishing college and bought a magazines like Pacific Rail News and there were features showing Utah Rwy with 2nd hand SP SD45's and BN F45's used for a while before they got the SD40-2's. Pretty cool.
I must need more coffee. Yeah, Eric Broomans layout was always a favorite of mine. My only disappointment was that he constantly updated it to stay with the current railroad scene. I really liked his 1980's version with the SD40-2's painted yellow and gray with SP light packages.
I keep looking now and then for the Atlas Utah Rwy RSD4 road numbers I missed out on, but always in vain. And Atlas so far has not rerun them in years now.

Hello everyone, been a lurker here for several years, and finally decided to join in. I model the Soo Line on the fictional Maysville sub in 1964-65, so plenty of freight car variety, no worries about passengers, F-units, Baldwins...what more could you want? My layout itself is fictional for the time being, but hopefully that'll change . Thanks for letting me in! SooLine
