Hey Gang!
How it took me so long to find this place I'll never know, but I'll chalk it up to becoming a father on Nov 1st of 2012, and the combination of my "Real World" jobs as a commercial pilot and as the Administrator of a large Chevy forum.
I used to be 843de on the late lamented Atlas forum, but here you can just call me HHR.
My modeling interests have shifted over the years from the Steam to Diesel transition era, to the "Golden Age" of steam.
The latest addition to the roster is a Kato FEF-3, my first thought on unboxing that little beauty was "where have you been all my life?", worth every penny!
And my son Dustin James AKA Dusty, or The Little Dude as he's known in the family, is a Thomas the Tank engine crazed train nut. My off days always feature a firmly booked 1:30pm playtime with Dusty because that's when the Charlotte PBS affiliate runs Thomas & Friends.
Anyway, enough babbling, just great to be here and see so many names from "The Good 'Ol Days".

Why thanks Gary, it's good to be back amongst the old gang again. Yeah, Dusty is an apple that didn't fall far from the tree. We're lucky enough to live 20 minutes away from the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer. So we were at the big "Streamliners at Spencer" gathering last year, then Thomas the Tank Engine paid a visit in September.
My wife is still debating whether I had the biggest grin at Spencer, or if Dusty had the biggest grin. She's coined the term "Perma-Grin" to describe the slightly demented look I get when I'm around trains, planes, or automobiles.

Welcome back to the fold. I was in the old Atlas forums from 1994 until the bloody end. Sounds like your job and little one are keeping you pretty busy! My little one is in her 2nd year as Biomedical Engineering major and keeping me pretty poor for a couple more years so my hobby budget is well, not "steam" friendly!
Well, kids and trains both keep us "young" minded for a long time! My wife, thankfully, takes my love of trains all in stride and even helps me shop at train shows, remember things etc!
Cheers, Jim

Hello Atlas Rescue Folks, I'm back as well. I was around towards and to the end of the old place. Signed up on here early on, but have been dormant. I had some job market problems and things going on with my house, but things are getting straightened out and am getting back on my feet again. I sold a good deal of my old stuff and took down my layout, but am re-doing the room again. It's small (9' x 12'), and I'm going to do a proper walk-under and want to do 2 levels. No rush on anything, just finishing up painting the room. I kept all my military stuff and the meat packing plant, those will be the featured industries. I have AutoCAD at work and have my room saved, but got a sketch book and am enjoying sketching out ideas better than messing with AutoCAD. This is one of my latest sketches, maybe I'll start a thread as I'm sure I'd get good advice. Rail On!

Hi everyone; I am brand new on the forum, only found it by accident, and wanted to make sure that I'd introduced myself.
I run Andrew's Trains, a blog and associated website for smart, practical and operational model railway layout plans, proto and model photos.
Check out the blog if you get the chance as I work on my new home layout, and get back to modelling.

Those are still my favorite Corvettes - the Sting Rays of 1963 - 1967. That's a beautiful '67. right Captain? The hood's a '67, anyway.

Hey Bob! That '64 Sting Ray, has been in my garage, since 2011... It has a '67 Stinger hood...ZZ-4 aluminum-head Crate mtr. Vintage A/C, 4-speed, & American Torque-Thrust D's. Took me many moons to get one. I sold the last '65 Satellite, & it now resides in West Chester, PA. I'll be posting pics of the layout expansion, ASAP. Nice hearin' from you, & great to be back-on the forum! Regards, AL

Capt'nflap, nice pics, that C&O hopper looks like a Gilbert to these eyes, but it was procured from Varney,an odd alliance of the 50s. now the ZZ-4 is a 350 block, intresting, why were late 5.7 blocks listed at 346,or 347 CI instead of 350 CI ? GM was always pulling stunts like that, like late 396 blocks were actually 402 CI, but never listed as such. Pontiac 350 was more like 354 CI. lately being enticed by the Cross Fire Coupes, but never get to talk to any owners about them,so not sure how reliable they are. want to move up to something with a V-6,wifey's 96 Windstar died about 2 months back and we need something else that can haul 4 grandkids around,or one grandpa, and it isn't the Vibe, can only fit two kid seats in it,and they cant ride up front, etc, etc, etc, boy the laws are running wild now. Hi - I found this forum when looking for some information about putting ditch lights on my F units. I have some 1:1 scale photo's to use as a reference. I am still looking for information on "how to do it" though. I am just getting back into the hobby now that I am retired. Started a small layout and installed a few decoders. I am keeping mine simple and using a basic Digitrax DCS 50 that I bought 5 or 6 years ago. I enjoy reading other folks posts because it gives me incentive to try something new. Most of my locomotives are Atlas or Presidents Choice.
I hope we get more people signing up as time goes on, especially with easy projects for beginners like me.

I'm new to the forum. I do belong to a few other forums, but one has been taken over by O scale people and I have lost interest.
I have been in model railroading for over 50 years and model HO scale. I have a freelance model railroad set right where I live in southwestern Montana in 1957. I chose this time period because when I was growing up, I had relatives working on both the Northern Pacific and the Milwaukee Road and was lucky enough to have spent many hours riding in the cabs of locomotives. (No OSHA back then). I have been hooked on trains ever since.

I'm new to this forum although I do belong to several other forums.
My model railroading interest goes back to the late 60's when I bought my first flat car kit. I model a 1990's freelanced mineral hauler located in Canada's Rocky Mountains.

Hello,
My handle is Ashpit. I model in HO and model the Northern Pacific in 1953 around Butte Montana. My layout was started in 1988 and might be 75% complete.

Okay, so I can (apparently) reply to an existing post, and start a new one (according to the blurb at the bottom) but I can't.
Hey; I'm about to demolish a massive, 20 years in building N-Scale RR (I'm moving) and want to DONATE all but the really salable pieces to whoever wants them.
It would be good if I could start a new post to announce this, but it doesn't come up.
What gives?

you should be able to create posts right away as there are no restrictions on posting. To start a new thread, go to the board you want to post your message to and look for the "Create Thread" button in the upper right corner of the page. Click on it, and a window should pop up. You can create your new thread there.
