Rapido Live - October 7th
- next tentatively scheduled November 12 - EP-5, PA, F59 - all should ship out before Chinese New Year (CNY) - maroon VIA toques - anyone with one in excellent condition Jason would be interested in buying - requests for more Ski Train Tempo cars, including from dealers, so possible - a not-so-subtle hint that they are working on a new model of the CN Turbotrain in HO - any other scales? - not likely, did offer a guy who requested the CN/VIA coaches in O if he could come up with 3,000 orders, never heard back - Proto-Paint? - trying to do it, but supplier has been sold twice so they are currently attempting to work with the 3rd owner - N scale - about 1/6 the sales of HO - FPA-2u - sales met expectations - H16-44 - sailed past expectations - H16-44 - Dan Darnell project, currently busy on another loco project (unannounced), when done that will go back to H16-44 - H16-44 - earliest tooling January, maybe after CNY, production next summer - NH County Cars - sales enough to make, but not strong enough to be a priority, Bill needs to find time. Also caught up in the inability to travel to China, difficult working with factory to combine parts from other NH models to minimize new tooling when videoconferencing/emailing - don't know when they can visit factories again, things difficult without the visits (thinks like the F40PH sideframes would have been caught with China visits where they could check out assembly processes) - Procor tank cars - shipped last of June from China, last 3 weeks somewhere unknown in Canada - F30 - somewhere in Canada for the last 3 weeks - Comet cars - somewhere in Canada Customs for the last week and a half - X31 - shipping to dealers now - Jason hates Bill - Bill started his layout in June 2020 and just had his first operating session, Jason started the Kingston sub in April 2013 and is still years away... - Autoflood III sales very successful

Rapido Live - October 7th - a not-so-subtle hint that they are working on a new model of the CN Turbotrain in HO Ouch, this is going to be painful on my wallet.
- N scale - about 1/6 the sales of HO Shouldn't it be around half of HO if it's based on scale? I wonder if it's skewed for the Canadien passenger sets? N got the HEP version, HO should as well (one can hope!)- don't know when they can visit factories again, things difficult without the visits (thinks like the F40PH sideframes would have been caught with China visits where they could check out assembly processes) This aligns with my thoughts / opinions on this and other threads on this forum. In person visits is a must for quality reasons.- Jason hates Bill - Bill started his layout in June 2020 and just had his first operating session, Jason started the Kingston sub in April 2013 and is still years away... I don't think Bill went for a triple decker plan though. Jason's also crazy and a perfectionist (i mean that in the kindest way possible) and has re-worked a majority of the layout a few times. Jason, cut yourself some slack you're building three layouts at once!comments injected above.

Good to hear. The samples actually had the wrong (Canadian) open bearing sideframes (look at the B leaf spring), but if it is confirmed to be from the Cabbage, that is correct!

Any updates on the Northeast caboose project? Don't think I've seen an order deadline yet.

What has been discussed about the E8 trucks? I know there was some discussion on dimensions of springs and airbrake adjustments, but what about how much air their easy under the frame to the trucks?

To cover some of the questions.
Nobody asked last night, wasn't discussed. The Rapido Schedule webpage still lists it as In Design with no dates announced.
E8 discussed at the 0:32 point of the video - designer in China (per the discussion) added space to allow they think for big gradient changes (think rollercoaster) without telling them. Bill very upset, much discussion with factory when discovered.
0:54:30 for the discussion - mentions the 3 different trucks and the type that will be done for replacement.
Turbotrain - see 0:38 for Jason's non-verbal hint.
HO HEP Budd cars - in a previous Q&A answer was won't happen - would require entirely new tooling.
Other things that might be of interest:
0:57:15 - how real life VIA colours change based on what VIA has on hand for painting...
0:58:55 - what happens when Jordan stays too late at the office.

According to the Rapido site, that style of Caprice & Impala were in production from 1977 to 1990, a pretty long stretch. Edit: There were detail changes along the way and Rapido says their version represents the ones produced from 1980 to 1985.

Thanks, I really need late 70's versions but sometimes if a car is close enough some may cheat.

Those cars are beautiful, but I'd also like something that casts the same silhouette as these for a whole lot less money so I can fill in the middle spaces of an autorack. Fortunately for me open autoracks are the exception and not the rule. These would be great for the end spots on the upper deck of an enclosed autorack with a roof but without full height doors (early ETTX 820xxx, 850xxx-853xxx racks) since you'd only need two of these highly detailed autos: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3122686It would take four or five of them to fill the visible top rack of a roofless enclosed autorack, such as the old CTTX racks: www.rr-fallenflags.org/ttx/cttx700188ago.jpgOr you could fill the end spots of a doorless enclosed TTVX rack with six of these cars: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3125394

There is molded thing that gives the outline of pickup trucks for enclosed auto racks with the see thru screens.

Williams Brothers ( www.wmbros.com/) previously made clear plastic HO scale vehicles, and according to their website they are working on rereleasing these kits. These are nicely executed models that require some effort to finish but they're inexpensive. The handful of models that I can use in my modeling era work fine for my purposes. I just wish the selection was a little more broad.

The body style was produced from 1977 to 1990, with minor revisions. As noted theirs is accurate for 1980-86. If you're a real stickler Classic Metal Works produced a 1977 Impala sedan some years ago that isn't too hard to find yet. I put in a pre-order on these because I expect they will sell well, even with the relatively high price.

Which elelements are you commenting on? The door window proportions? the groove that runs along the bottom of the side and up the ends? The handrail sizing?

I see lots of little differences, but not needing any of these cars anyway, nothing jumps out at me as a deal breaker.

I see lots of little differences, but not needing any of these cars anyway, nothing jumps out at me as a deal breaker. The window on the door and the door contour looks off as it curves in at the bottom. Looking at all the pre-production shots (which clearly haven't changed in production now), the cab windows on the cab cars suffer the same "fate." Window dimensions are off, it's way too round and a bit small. The deal breaker is that it's $100 for one of these cars, when the less detailed variant was anywhere between $10 and $25 (a bit more now, but nowhere near $100) and was produced some 20+ years ago. They too have issues, but they're cheaper and there were no claims of unparalleled accuracy. Such a fundamental dimensional mistake, when pointed out more than once in pre-production should at least be looked at, no? The underbody looks good and the side windows are certainly better than the cheaper variant. For me, not worth the money and the order of ten canceled. I feel for the vendor.

I wondered about that but with the lighting in the photo it was tough to tell for sure.
A win-win for me anyway since I don't need any of those cars.

mdvle,
What you do with the Rapido and Athearn livestreams is greatly appreciated, and you do an excellent job at providing info. As a vehicle guy, I truly hope that there are going to be some Ford Explorers and pickups from the 2011-current period!

I haven't posted it because I haven't yet fully watched it again to get the North American stuff noted, but Jason and Bill did a livestream with the 2 Rapido UK employees last month and a couple of North American items got mentioned within the 90 minutes of UK stuff.
But it was mentioned that Rapido was working on a license deal with Ford, so if anyone wants Ford vehicles it might be worth filling out the suggestion form on the Rapido website (they mentioned tonight that the requests all get put into a database that they look at to influence decisions).

Rapido Trains UK - November 16th

Jason, Bill, Rapido UK staff 0:20 - from J Fleming, any plans to do an OO GP40TC? Jason explains. 0:58 - they laser scanned Jason, printed out 3D replicas of him 1:00 - Rapido North America working on a Ford license agreement, steep minimum royalties every quarter, need to sell 20,000 cars - Silver Streak - contacted rights holder, $50,000 upfront royalty payment which would be the entire expected sales of it 1:03 - half the model train market / half Rapido customers are collectors, not layout builders / operators YouTube link

Some decals read "Reliable Parcel Delivery" and others read "United Postal Service." If the modeler decided to cut up the decals to spell "United Parcel Service," well, that's their business. Something similar could be done with words a modeler could cut up to spell AmRoad.

But I don't want to get thrown off the train by someone with not-so-attractive dental work.
